Job Summary: The Senior Project Engineer will play a key role in supporting project managers and field teams on large-scale, ground-up commercial construction projects. This individual will be responsible for managing technical aspects of the project, including coordination of construction documents, RFI management, submittals, quality control, and project scheduling. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working on large ground-up projects and will work closely with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Documentation: Manage all project documentation, including construction drawings, specifications, contracts, submittals, and RFIs. Ensure that all project documents are updated, organized, and accessible to the project team.
- Submittals & RFIs: Coordinate and track all submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Ensure that responses are timely and that all relevant parties are informed of any changes or clarifications to the project scope.
- Project Coordination: Assist in the coordination of all project activities, including subcontractor management, scheduling, and site logistics. Work closely with project managers and superintendents to ensure smooth communication and coordination between all parties involved.
- Schedule Management: Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules, ensuring that all milestones are met and that the project stays on track for timely completion. Identify and communicate potential delays or risks to the project manager.
- Quality Control: Oversee quality control processes and ensure that all work is performed in compliance with project specifications and standards. Coordinate inspections and testing to verify that construction meets required quality levels.
- Budget Tracking: Support the project manager in tracking project budgets, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs. Assist in managing cost control measures and providing input on potential cost-saving solutions.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors. Provide regular updates to all stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and key decisions.
- Pre-Construction Involvement: Assist in pre-construction planning, including reviewing design documents, participating in value engineering, and supporting the development of construction strategies.
- Safety Oversight: Support the project team in promoting and enforcing a strong safety culture on-site. Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Technology & Software: Utilize construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Primavera to track project progress, manage documentation, and communicate with the project team.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a project engineer or assistant project manager on large ground-up commercial construction projects. Experience in sectors such as healthcare, education, office, or retail is highly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, building systems, and industry standards. Knowledge of building codes, quality control procedures, and safety regulations is essential.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Primavera P6, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. Ability to anticipate challenges and proactively implement solutions.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to take ownership of project tasks and lead teams in achieving project goals. A collaborative approach to working with others.

- Certifications: Relevant industry certifications such as LEED AP, OSHA 30, or PMP are a plus.
