Asbestos Abatement Coordinator

PMCS Group is seeking an experienced Asbestos Abatement Coordinator to oversee projects involving asbestos and lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement for our client, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). This is a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance and safety in school construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. Candidates without a degree must have additional years of experience to compensate for education.
- 5 years of full-time professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement.
- OR 2 years of full-time experience plus CSST (Certified Site Surveillance Technician) certification.
- OR Certified Asbestos Consultant certification from the State of CA.
Required Certifications:
- AHERA asbestos course certificates (Building Inspector, Management Planner, Contractor/Supervisor, Project Designer).
- EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification.
- CA Department of Health (CDPH) Lead certification (Inspector/Assessor/Project Monitor).
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain communication with Facilities departments to provide technical support related to asbestos and lead issues.
- Prepare site assessments (Phase 1) and abatement designs (Phase 2) addressing asbestos and lead materials in construction projects.
- Review environmental reports (Phase 1, 2, and 3) for accuracy and compliance.
- Survey sites to recommend abatement methods for asbestos and lead-containing materials.
- Prepare job estimates for project assessment, design, and monitoring, including labor and material costs.
- Plan and oversee asbestos material removals, encapsulation, and lead-based paint abatement.
- Monitor environmental projects during construction for compliance with regulations and safety practices.
- Conduct sampling for asbestos and lead exposure during environmental incidents or construction.
- Manage asbestos/lead project documentation, including condition assessments and tracking in Maximo.
