JOB DESCRIPTION:
Café Managers are responsible for ensuring brand standards, cost control and customer service. A Café Manager is assigned to a particular location and is responsible for the operations, sanitation standards, financial performance, human resources responsibilities and Port City Java brand standards in the café to which they are assigned.
DUTIES:
- Provide superior customer service and satisfaction on a daily basis.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and sanitation in the café. Being sure to follow, and enforce, proper Food Safety regulations that keep in line with the Local Health Department.
- Ensure product quality and integrity for all food and beverage being served in the cafes.
- Provide leadership and direction to Baristas, ensuring that goals and objectives are met. Function as support for Baristas and provide direction related to the implementation of new operational programs and enforcement of brand standards.
- Initial Interviewing and hiring of new baristas who will join the café staff. Properly filling out new hire paperwork for each new trainee and then teaching and training them to become successful Baristas.
- Write weekly café schedules for the cafe.
- Responsible for all aspects of staff management including interviewing, reference checks, hiring, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions and termination of café staff.
- Execute local cafe and system-wide marketing programs and promotions.
- Write and conduct bi-annual reviews for Baristas which include goals, recaps of the previous period and assign pay increases when appropriate.
- Oversee daily operations of assigned cafes to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed by all hourly employees, which can range from 8-15 people per café.
- Participate in weekly manager meetings with other Café Managers, District Managers, and key staff of other departments within the corporate office to review procedures and rollouts, give updates and share best practices. Departments involved include Roasting, Franchising, Marketing, Accounting and Human Resources.
- Take weekly and monthly inventories in the cafe.
- Fulfill daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork relating to the store operations. Some examples may include sales, payroll, ordering, and weekly reporting.
- Responsible for the safe, functional and efficient operation of corporate café assigned. Ensure that facilities are maintained effectively and to the health department standards.
- Responsible for all cash, credit and gift card transactions in the café. All cash handling and financial statements are the responsibility of the Café Manager.
- On-going support, training, and testing of staff, providing them with the resources they need to meet those goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Restaurant/café management or supervisory experience.
- High School Degree, or equivalent.
- Must have strong communication skills, including both written and verbal.
- Requires computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to lead and inspire Baristas towards successful completion of goals.
- Ability to lead by example using hands on, shoulder to shoulder work ethic.
- Ability to work flexible hours, at times.
- Must have excellent organizational, leadership and management skills.
- Must have the ability to analyze problems and make decisions that will lead to a solution.
- Must have strong time management skills; able to prioritize tasks and create an effective work schedule on a regular basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time or entire work shift.
- Work may require, on occasion, the need to lift or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to regularly operate computers and other office productivity machinery, such as copier, printers, etc.
- Must be able to frequently communicate in various situations as required by Job Duties.
- Must be able to determine quality by tastings, cuppings, etc. of various products/recipes related to Port City Java system.
