Job Purpose:
The purpose of the Claims Service Representative position is to provide prompt and efficient service to policyholders by answering direct telephone calls and by answering initial calls through the Claims Division HUNT line. Provide continued service to policyholders by assisting on files for Deposition Assistance, Supplemental Benefits, and Investigations (pre-litigation). Also provide technical support to the Claims Division on file set‑ups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist policyholders by providing a centralized location where initial loss reports are taken and completed.
· Timely and accurately create claim files.
· Responsible for HUNT calls during regular and expanded business hours.
· Complete appropriate and necessary documentation on all files, including completion of file letters.
· Act as a liaison between ISMIE Mutual/Indemnity and its current policyholders, and provide guidance and support when needed.
· Review policy coverage on reported matters and advise Claim Manager of potential issues and proposed resolution.
· Handle files for Deposition Assistance, Supplemental Benefits, and Investigations.
· Review and approve legal, expense and other necessary invoices.
· Provide timely responses to requests for loss histories and Certificates of Insurance.
· Appropriately triage and manage correspondence in Legal Tracker.
· Provide quality service in all areas of responsibility.
· Additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
1. Education Required for Position:
- High School degree or equivalent, some college and/or one-two years claim handling or related experience desired.
2. Specific Skills Required for Position:
- A strong service-oriented attitude with the ability to discuss medical facts with physicians.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to computer literacy.
3. Experience Required for Position:
- One to two years claim handling or related experience desired.
Essential Physical Requirements of Position:
- Close visual acuity to read extensive amounts of written information in a standard font for an extended period of time;
- Ability to view and read from computer screens and printed materials;
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication;
- Ability to type, operate a keyboard, computer and computing device;
- Ability to analyze complex data and information;
- Ability to move about to accomplish tasks, attend meetings and scheduled events inside the office; and
- Ability to work in the Chicago office.
