Overview:
The EMS Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert in Energy Management Systems (EMS), leading the installation, turnover, and utilization of EMS control systems. This role collaborates closely with the LAUSD Technical Quality Support Team (TQST) to promote preventive maintenance, identify energy conservation measures, and suggest facility improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Submittal Reviews: Conduct thorough reviews of HVAC Controls designs and submittals.
- Energy Analysis: Analyze utility data and energy usage to identify schools suitable for recommissioning and retro-commissioning initiatives.
- Conservation Measures: Evaluate EMS data and alarms to identify no-cost/low-cost energy conservation measures.
- Preventive Maintenance: Use EMS insights to identify preventive maintenance opportunities to optimize system performance.
- Performance Benchmarking: Monitor newly commissioned schools' energy usage against design benchmarks to validate system performance.
- Specification Updates: Assist in updating control specifications to align with evolving federal, state, and local codes and standards.
- System Integration: Support the integration of additional control systems such as lighting, irrigation, and photovoltaic (PV) systems with EMS.
- Standard Control Sequences: Contribute to the creation and refinement of district-wide standard control sequences of operations.
- Small Project Assistance: Draft shop drawings and sequences of operations for minor controls upgrade projects.
- Retro-Commissioning Evaluation: Assess the feasibility of proposed retro-commissioning measures.
- Project Management: Aid in managing in-house commissioning projects to ensure successful implementation.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in building controls or a related field, including programming and controls database management.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- HVAC Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC operations within a facility.
- Documentation Skills: Proficiency in creating and adjusting sequences of operations, shop drawings, and project specifications.
Required Education:
- Degree: Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical, Information Technology) OR
- Technical Qualification: Two-year technical degree in HVAC or Electronics-related studies with an additional 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Controls Experience: Experience working with multiple controls manufacturers, including Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve installation issues during static and dynamic start-up phases.
- Project Support: Experience supporting installation personnel and contractors on project sites.
- Commissioning Expertise: Demonstrated experience in performing or assisting with the commissioning of EMS.
