Group Description
White Oak’s Complex Credit (“CC”) team oversees special and distressed situations, with a focus on more tactical credit investing strategies. CC often works on investments where White Oak holds control debt or equity positions. The group employs a proactive approach to solving complex investment problems through:
- Triage (e.g. when necessary in the event of major covenant defaults)
- Root Cause Analysis (e.g. customer issues, capital structure issues, etc.)
- Financial Restructuring & Operational Improvements (e.g. liquidity management, cost rationalization, etc.)
- Operational Stabilization (e.g. management changes, financial planning, etc.)
- Recapitalization / Exit (e.g. refinancing, sale of company, etc.)
In addition to high-touch portfolio engagements, CC analyzes new investment opportunities with the following characteristics:
- Underwritings of special situations investments
- Distressed loan portfolios or loan positions at large discounts
- New investments have a focus on value creation and synergies for the existing portfolio
Summary Job Description:
- White Oak is looking for an exceptional Associate with two to five years of investment banking, restructuring, leveraged finance, credit investing or private equity experience.
- The Associate will work closely with senior members and generally support all aspects of the investment and triage process:
Build robust, three-statement financial models to (i) help company financial planning, (ii) analyze distressed investments and (iii) rationalize strategic alternatives / exit opportunities;
Draft internal investment memorandums for Investment Committee discussions;
Assist the negotiation of legal documentation and restructurings; and
Work with Loan Servicing Analysts to monitor and manage relevant portfolio credits.

Position is based in our San Francisco or New York Office.
Candidate Qualifications:
Two to five years of investment banking, restructuring, leveraged finance, credit investing or private equity experience.
Candidates must be highly motivated and intellectually curious individuals with strong financial modeling, valuation and accounting skills.
Undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher from a competitive institution.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with credit documentation and working knowledge of capital structures are a plus.
