Trinity Industries is searching for a Fleet Engineer to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
What you’ll do:
- Evaluate designs and products for compliance with regulatory and contractual standards in terms of material, stability and performance; follow established engineering procedures and policies; manage engineering change process
- Develop scope of work, engineering drawing packages, provide maintenance instructions, R-1 and 4-2 applications and repair procedures to support maintenance and repair of Trinity Industries Leasing Company railcars and managed assets
- Serve as an Engineering project leader for creating railcar specifications and reviewing with the customers during the order review meetings
- Manage CAD functional activities for the assigned projects
- Provide internal technical consultative services to division/plant managers and team in sales, engineering and manufacturing departments
- Maintain external relationships with vendors, customers, engineering and operating personnel at various maintenance facilities
- Support Trinity Industries Leasing Company improvement initiatives
- Ensure design intent is maintained
- Make design and material recommendations to achieve desired results
What you'll need:
- B.S. in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- 2+ years’ experience of engineering procedures and administration; emphasis on railcar design preferred
- Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills necessary
- Ability to multi-task / handle multiple projects of differing scale
- Demonstrated ability to execute all phases of product design, prototype development, product analysis and manufacturing processes while conforming to applicable regulatory standards and practices. Knowledge of AAR and/or FRA regulations preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing or repair plant in a Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineer, or Resident Engineer position with a custom product, freight and/or tank car production or maintenance preferred
- Knowledge of different types of weld process and industry standards like AWS specifications
- Experience in Autodesk systems like AutoCAD, Inventor is preferred
- EIT certification is preferred
- Knowledge of railcar operating environment preferred
- Knowledge of rail and/or hazardous material regulations preferred
- Knowledge of stress analysis preferred
