Our client in New York City has an opening for a contract Network Engineer.
This is a hybrid 3-6 month contract position.
Hourly based on experience: Up to $80/HR
Role Requirements:
Skills
- Strong understanding of traditional networking concepts (ISO Layer, BGP, RIP, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Palo Alto, Meraki, and Cisco networking equipment
- Juniper, Fortigate, or similar are acceptable
- Understanding of using Splunk, Datadog, or similar observation tools
- Understanding of Linux (Bash, Filesystems, etc.)
- Understanding of IaC tooling (Terraform, Cloudformation, or Ansible)
- Nice to haves:
- AWS Network Firewall, AWS WAF, AWF Firewall Manager, AWS Shield
- EC2, Lambda, S3, EBS, RDS, Dynamo, ALBs/ELBs, Route53, VPC Design, etc.
- ALBs/ELBs, Route53, NACLs, NATGWs, VPC Endpoints, Route Tables, SGs, CloudFront, PrivateLink, API Gateway, VPC Peering, etc.
- VPC Design, Caching strategies, Region to Region, AZ to AZ appropriate networking routes
- Understanding of AWS or “Adjacent Cloud” Networking Services and Concepts
- Understanding of General AWS or “Adjacent Cloud” Services and Concepts
- Understanding of AWS or “Adjacent Cloud” Guardrails
Duties
- Support on-prem “Corp” network devices (Meraki Switches, Cisco Switches, Palo Alto Firewalls)
- “Breakfix”: Required network changes to enable connectivity (Physical and WiFi) via CLI, Console or UI
- On-call support
- Respond to urgent support requests from cross-functional teams via Slack, PagerDuty, etc.
- Biweekly rotation
- Collaborate or escalate issues to cross-functional teams
- Groom support requests and escalate where needed be
- VPN issues
- Internet, etc.
- Searching via queries in observability tools such as Splunk or Datadog to resolve traffic/routing issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams dependent on networking systems
- Production Engineering
- Broader teams
