Our client, an exploration and production company in downtown Houston, is looking for a hands-on Infrastructure lead. This leader will oversee network infrastructure and systems ensuring security and performance. The ideal candidate is customer-focused and proactive in identifying and resolving issues to maximize the efficiency and availability of computing resources. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills to manage issues through to resolution and provide root cause analysis for complex and recurrent problems.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, deployment, and ongoing support of company networks, implementing resiliency best practices.
- Lead a team of infrastructure engineers, offering guidance and professional development.
- Manage escalated support cases, ensuring SLAs are met and users receive timely follow-ups.
- Operate and integrate networking technology, including routing, switching, subnetting, VPNs, and SD-WAN with the organization’s infrastructure.
- Schedule and execute necessary upgrades for hardware and software related to infrastructure and security.
- Apply change management protocols, maintaining thorough documentation and communication for all projects and tasks.
- Support, manage, and deploy virtual machines (VMs) and storage solutions.
- Maintain datacenter configurations to ensure reliable and efficient operations of both physical and virtual infrastructure.
- Utilize knowledge of enterprise technologies, such as email, backup, productivity, and cloud solutions, ensuring secure, reliable operations.
- Develop and keep up-to-date network documentation and diagrams.
- Stay vigilant to cybersecurity threats, actively monitoring and enhancing security across systems and data.
- Engage in infrastructure budget planning.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify and address security weaknesses.
- Assist with the deployment and testing of disaster recovery systems.
- Prioritize and manage tasks in a dynamic work environment.
- Act as an escalation point for other support teams.
- Provide technical support both in-person and remotely.
- Maintain an inventory of hardware, software, and equipment.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve issues and implement new technology.
- Utilize network analysis tools to assess and optimize performance.
- Handle incident tickets, maintaining SLA standards and follow-ups.
- Optimize network performance, troubleshooting issues and addressing outages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for critical incident response outside regular hours.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, MIS, or other STEM degrees.
- Certifications (CCIE or CCNP)
- 8+ years of experience in networking and security.
- Deep experience with protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, DNS, SNMP, SSL VPN, IPSec, DMVPN, MPLS, HSRP, and TCP/UDP.
- Skilled in VPN technologies (DMVPN, IPSec, SSL, AnyConnect, AOVPN).
- Experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, Meraki routers, wireless, firewalls, and switches.
- Familiarity with Cisco ISE and Umbrella.
- Working knowledge of virtualization (e.g., VMware vSphere).
- Experience with cloud-based voice solutions.
- Knowledge of SSO, MFA, IAM, RADIUS, and certificate management.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and incident handling.
- Proficient in networking and security for datacenter, virtual, and cloud environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a customer-focused attitude.
Advantageous
- Experience with Jira or similar tools for incident and asset management.
- Ability to troubleshoot Windows client operating systems.
- Previous experience in upstream (E&P) industry.
Must be able to work onsite in Houston, TX weekly Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Must be a resident of Houston, TX. No relocation available.
