Overview
The Safety Director will coordinate activities for a team of safety professionals, developing and executing comprehensive safety programs to ensure our client's commitment to a safe workplace. This role will oversee 15 to 16 safety managers across various projects, including data centers, substations, solar installations, utility line work, and storm emergency response. The Safety Director will provide strategic direction and guidance and will collaborate closely with leadership to implement and monitor safety initiatives.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to Safety Representatives, establishing safety goals and managing personnel allocation.
- Partner with our client's departments, supporting proposal and contract development for safety and emergency plans.
- Uphold and enforce our client's safety philosophy and OSHA compliance, fostering an environment where safety is the priority.
- Conduct safety and emergency preparedness training, and continuously update safety policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Develop regulatory knowledge to maintain compliance with OSHA and safety standards, preparing employee training for regulatory updates.
- Act as Safety Subject Matter Expert for OSHA, general contractors, and job-site personnel inquiries.
- Create and execute long-term safety plans, conduct job-site visits, inspections, and oversee safety meetings.
- Coordinate union employee safety orientations and handle documentation related to incidents.
- Lead post-accident investigations, performing root cause analysis, and create training to prevent recurrences.
- Oversee and approve all safety-related equipment purchases and inspections.
- Build relationships and maintain professionalism with customers and team members on client projects and premises.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health, EH&S Management, or equivalent experience; Master's degree a plus.
- Certifications: CUSA or CUSP preferred; OSHA 500 certification a plus.
- Experience: 5+ years in a leadership role within Safety and Health, with a background in electrical utility construction; lineman experience is highly valued.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and training skills, in-depth OSHA regulatory knowledge, ability to build trust and influence across teams, and expertise in regulatory communications.
- Other: Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass background and drug screenings.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 2 days of overnight travel per month; all sites within a 3-4 hour radius, except OH and OK.
