Job Description:
- Assist the pharmacist in the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications.
- Perform tasks associated with dispensing medications for patients from infancy to adulthood.
- Assist in the procurement, record-keeping, storage, and distribution of all controlled substances.
- Ensure the appropriateness of medication doses by correctly inputting patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area in the system.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control protocol in the preparation of sterile products.
- Complete annual recertification and score at least 90% on the aseptic technique/infection control skills and written exam.
- Encourage other technicians and pharmacists to practice aseptic technique and infection control.
- Ensure medications prepared are correct and verified by the pharmacist, documenting no dispensing errors.
- Demonstrate competence in batch/medication/prescription order entry.
- Collaborate with Pharmacy Support Services personnel to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies.
- Adhere to procedures established for stock replacement and non-formulary processes.
- Obtain pharmacist initial/final checks and assign dilution and expiration labels to medications according to department standards.
- Possess knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for the handling of pharmaceuticals.
- Exhibit math skills, reading skills, and good communication skills.
- Operate equipment used in the preparation of sterile products effectively.
