Role: Cable Administrator
We are seeking a skilled Cabling Engineer with strong administrative capabilities to take on the role of Cable Management Software Administrator (CMS) for a data center infrastructure support team. This position requires a commitment to providing high-quality service to meet customer project needs and involves significant visibility and responsibility within the organization.
The CMS Administrator plays a key role in delivering essential support services to clients. Reporting to the Regional Service Delivery Manager and working alongside a team of technicians, the CMS Administrator will be based onsite, responsible for the management, maintenance, enhancements, and upgrades of the client-hosted CMS database within data center facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for CMS database administration.
- Oversee all updates and modifications to the existing cable management system.
- Ensure the CMS solution operates as a fully integrated planning and management tool, enhancing the efficiency and quality of MAC (Moves, Adds, Changes) services.
- Ensure all data is accessible to support service delivery.
- Generate and deliver detailed reports on SLA performance.
- Develop and update patching schedules within the CMS database.
- Manage infrastructure connectivity data, making updates as needed.
- Conduct regular audits to verify database accuracy.
- Generate reports on cabling infrastructure utilizing the CMS database as required.
- Plan cabling infrastructure capacity.
- Maintain database and software integrity.
- Conduct surveys and update relevant drawings and schedules.
- Train engineers in the use of CMS software.
- Document processes and procedures.
- Attend vendor meetings as necessary to support client relations.
- Provide support and information to clients, vendors, and the engineering team.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards across suppliers, clients, and manufacturers.
- Adhere to managed service processes and procedures.
- Provide regular updates to the Service Delivery Manager and Administrators.
- Supervise and escort third-party and internal teams within technology rooms.
- Manage change control processes.
- Install new patch cabling, adhere to cable management compliance, and support data center environments.
- Install new server racks, as well as rack and stack servers and other network hardware.
- Track and manage assets.
- Act as a mediator between suppliers, clients, and third parties, making service-impacting decisions as needed.
- Perform data quality checks, including annual validation of physical assets against the asset management database.
- Ensure data center redundancy requirements are met.
- Take on additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a banking IT support environment.
- Proficiency with CMS/IIM software and database administration.
- Experience with workflow process software and an understanding of change management.
- Background in IT hardware deployment, particularly within a Data Center MAC environment.
- Experience in structured cabling installation, fault-finding, and testing with fluke test equipment.
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards and various cable types (FTP, UTP, Optical Fibre).
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure.
- Expert knowledge of asset management and ticketing systems.
- Familiarity with complex change management and service delivery processes.
- Capability to mentor and train new team members on systems, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to approve and sign off training modules, supervise shift activities, and lead projects from design to handover.
- Capacity to cover line management responsibilities during high workflow periods or planned/unplanned leave.
- Desired qualifications include IT training, BICSI Technician certification, or Certified Data Centre Technician Professional (CDCTP®).
