SUMMARY:
Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy, our tribal school, imparts a strong foundation of Wintun culture by weaving together modern education techniques with our cultural traditions in art, music and our Patwin language. Since its opening in 1998, the Academy has helped students develop confidence and integrity while respecting each other, the environment and the world around them. Guided by the Tribe's Strategic Plan for Education, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy is creating and maintaining a rigorous and unique academic program that instills a lifetime of success within today's world, while still upholding our Tribe's core human values.
The K-8th Grade Teacher will provide multi-subject and multi-grade instruction that serves all students utilizing research based and best teaching practices for all students, specifically, Native Americans. The teacher in this position will plan and prepare courses and lessons which reflect the school's high academic standards, and are appropriate to the needs, experiences and existing knowledge of the students. The teacher will provide individual and whole class instruction, and will assess students' work and record and monitor their development and progress. The teacher will promote understanding of the school's rules and the values and culture of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Education through direct observation, student assessment data, adherence to established policies, and achievement of performance standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops goals and objectives to provide individualized instruction, small group and whole classroom instruction utilizing appropriate educational programs and materials based on the learning needs and styles of the individual students.
Follows a scope and sequence for multi-subject and multi-age classroom instruction that serves all students and sets high academic standards.
Establishes and maintains standards of behavior for students to provide a productive learning environment.
Assesses student work; maintains accurate records of student assignments, grades, credits, and individual written agreements, and records student development and progress.
Develops and communicates to students and parents the expectations regarding student achievement and behavior.
Provides on-going assessment to determine student progress, effectiveness of educational programs and materials, and the need for program modification.
Confers and consults with parents/guardians and appropriate faculty regarding the results of assessments, classroom progress; if necessary, refers student to the Director of Education for additional services.
Recommends to the Director of Education, educational intervention, enrichment and/or experiences as appropriate, based on student classroom performance and assessment.
Fosters an atmosphere of positive communication and partnership with parents/guardians and faculty.
Promotes understanding of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation's culture and historic background.
Participates in continuing education appropriate for the job responsibilities and implements new skills and abilities.
Prepares for and participates in staff meetings.
Performs basic attendance accounting.
Maintains a clean, organized, and effective learning environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a field of education, and/or state of California teaching credential, three years related teaching experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Direct experience working with Native American children and adults preferred. Knowledge of Native American culture and history preferred. Knowledge of different types of learning styles and the appropriate, related interventions and services. Knowledge of the scope and sequence for learning goals in each grade as well as across the grades.
Ability to work, plan, and collaborate with other team-members, including other teachers, staff, and administration. Ability to effectively develop goals and objectives and implement individualized educational plans utilizing appropriate programs, materials, and teaching techniques. Ability to acknowledge need of and to seek additional sources of information to meet the needs of the students. Ability to work under pressure, to pay attention to detail, to concentrate and to follow directions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Individuals must be able to successful pass and maintain the Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) Background Check and possess a valid driver's license. Must have a valid and up-to-date Infant/Child First Aid CPR Certificate. Current TB test is required.
