Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean for the Glassell School of Art is heavily involved in the planning and oversight of course curricula for the school’s adult classes as taught through the Studio School. Position works closely with Director, Glassell School, to identify enrollment trends and respond accordingly in academic planning. Position is also liaison and manager for the School’s partnership programs with outside universities, non-profits and community groups.
- Academic Planning
- Working with and at the direction of the Dean, the Associate will assist in planning the Studio School curriculum.
- All new initiatives and continuing programs will be planned, monitored, and executed out of the Associate Dean office. Some of these initiatives may be, but are not limited to, new department conception, organizing and executing external reviews of existing departments.
- At the completion of each semester, the Associate Dean will evaluate enrollment patterns including the identification of strong and weak enrollments at both the department and individual course level. Each semester will culminate in an enrollment report submitted to the Dean and Director.
- The Associate Dean will monitor enrollments through the cycle, keeping the Director and Dean updated, and intervening with enrollment initiatives as needed.
- Scheduling/Production
- The Associate Dean will be the primary contact for the course schedule. Works with Dean, Registrar and Faculty on tri-annual course catalog production.
- Once the Dean has developed the semester’s schedule, the Associate Dean will review, suggest edits, and produce to completion, the semester-to-semester course schedule. This includes working with the graphics and marketing departments towards the completion of the course schedule. Works with MFAH departments to facilitate both hard copy mail out of catalogs and postcards, as appropriate, and to update catalog materials in digital locations.
- The Associate Dean will manage the scheduling of all models for figure drawing classes and lab sessions. Supervising payment, scheduling, and cancellations.
- Policies and Procedures
- The Associate Dean will be the primary administrator for the conception, execution, and monitoring for all policies and procedures for Studio School.
- Faculty Evaluations
- The Associate Dean will manage the faculty evaluation process including the delivery and the reception of evaluations, the calibration of each faculty’s review, and will manage the faculty evaluation archive, updating and purging records in accordance with MFAH’s record policies.
- Special Projects
- Working with the Dean and Director, the Associate Dean will have primary responsibilities for realizing special projects as they apply to the curriculum.
- The Associate Dean will also maintain ongoing curricular partnerships with outside entities like CreatiVets and others.
- They will also serve as the primary conduit for the Junior School’s curricular development, as it applies to One Glassell initiatives.
- Academic Counseling
- The Associate Dean will develop and maintain all academic counseling assessment materials.
- At the direction of the Dean of Faculty, the Associate Dean will counsel new and continuing students.
- St. Thomas
- The Associate Dean will be the primary contact person for the St. Thomas University collaboration, this includes semester-to-semester planning, new course proposal reviews, and new initiatives as conceived by the Dean and the Director of the Studio School.
- The Associate Dean will take primary role for the registration of St. Thomas students working with the Glassell Registrar on administering enrollments, rosters, and grades for the UST collaboration.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent administrative, organizational, analytical and time management skills, with a strong emphasis on meticulous attention to detail and task prioritization
- Skilled communicator with high emotional IQ.
- Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, database management, word processing).
- Must be able to SUCCESSFULLY handle multiple projects and priorities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred OR an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Previous experience (3+ years) working in an academic environment. In particular, previous experience working with high school and college registration practices.
- Experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
- Ability to collegially work with faculty, students, and community leaders
- Familiarity with academic roles, rules, policies, and procedures
- Prior (demonstrated) experience successfully supporting a positive and productive workplace culture

Work will primarily be performed in an office and academic environment. Work will involve extended sitting and computer use. Some local, regional, national travel may be required.
