The Role
The Data Engineer's primary responsibility will be to provide technical expertise and coordinate day-to-day deliverables with the consulting team both for Avantiico clients as well as internal initiatives. As an independent contributor, this position should be able to develop and support Microsoft Fabric initiatives using Microsoft tools such as Fabric, Synapse, Data Lake Gen2, Power BI, Tableau, SSRS and SSAS. This position will be responsible for design, development, and support of data solutions, will work closely with team members and clients and provide analytical insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop code in ETL tools, for the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from source systems to the data stores.
- Design and construct operational data stores, data lakes, and data marts.
- Design key and indexing schemes and design partitioning.
- Identify, design and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
- Build with analytical tools to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency.
- Work with stakeholders including data, design, product and others to assist them with data-related technical issues.
- Provide support for front-end development, delivery and support of Business Intelligence and Analytical solutions.
- Develop complex back-end data schemas to support front-end reporting requirements.
- Assist management with evaluating and accepting new projects by providing cost estimates, application analysis and recommendations based on application and project experience.
- Meet with decision makers, systems owners, end users and business analysts to define business requirements and systems goals and identify and resolve business data issues. Responsible for setting development standards and practices. Manage and maintain responsibility for assigned projects.
- Assist employees in solving routine data, system software, hardware, and procedure problems.
- Regularly evaluate existing development footprint and identify areas to improve software. Evaluate industry best practices to determine fit within the customer’s infrastructure.
- Assist with periodic testing and implementation of contingency plans to ensure availability of data in case of system failure.
- Follow internal project management methodology by adhering to documentation and production change control processes when implementing application enhancements and maintenance to ensure a stable production environment.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Must comply with current applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures. Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Self-motivated with ability to work effectively with limited supervision, enthusiasm for collaboration, continuous learning, and a team player.
- Understand importance of code review and automated testing and different levels at which these need to be performed and write and implement tests as required.
- This job may require up to 25% travel when working remotely. Ability for occasional travel for corporate meetings, retreats or client locations.
Skills & Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of information technology experience.
- 3 years of experience working on Azure services such as Azure Data Lake Gen 1 and 2, Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL DW, Rest API’s.
- 5 or more years of T-SQL language/query experience with data manipulation such as stored procedures, functions etc. Knowledge of data models, data modeling (Relational and Dimensional), Data profiling and working with large data environments.
- 3 or more years with Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, SAP, NetSuite, etc.
- 3 to 5 years querying data sources using tools like Excel (PowerPivot, Power Query, Power Map), Power BI, and other reporting tools such as Tableau, SAS, and Teradata.
- Strong communication, team player and advance analytical skills to analyze data issues and drive appropriate actions with data operations and business processes.
- Experience in solving ambiguous requests and problems using data.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is highly desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric is highly desirable, however, experience with prior applicable tools is required: Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Power Query, advanced T-SQL and SSMS are required.
- Python, Spark, Java or R; C++
- Knowledge or experience in implementing solutions with Microsoft PowerApps, Power Automate, and/or Common Data Service (Power Platform).
- Data Governance, Data Quality, Master Data Management, Insurance domain knowledge.
- Data Science background or skills are not required but please mention them as appropriate.

Compensation for roles at Avantiico varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Avantiico provides a reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position as $140,000 to $160,000.
