Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior HVAC Estimator in San Diego, CA, to lead the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale commercial mechanical construction projects. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in HVAC systems, construction methodologies, and estimation software to develop comprehensive project bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and project documents to produce detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems.
- Evaluate materials, equipment, labor costs, and subcontractor quotes to provide accurate and competitive estimates.
- Develop conceptual and detailed estimates to support budgeting, project planning, and value engineering initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and contractors to clarify project requirements and resolve any discrepancies in the estimating process.
- Lead and supervise junior estimating personnel, ensuring consistency in processes and estimate accuracy.
- Maintain and update historical cost data and databases, ensuring that current market trends and pricing are reflected.
- Propose and implement value engineering options to optimize project costs and improve bid competitiveness.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC estimating, with a strong focus on commercial mechanical construction projects.
- Proven knowledge of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, piping, and controls, and a strong understanding of commercial building automation systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Hands-on experience with cost estimation software such as Bluebeam, MS Project, Trimble AutoBid, and Autodesk tools like AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
- Demonstrated local and stable work history, with experience in San Diego or the broader Southern California region preferred.
