Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Responsibilities:
- Receive, process, and prepare patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
- Perform all aspects of microtomy, including cutting, sample capture, sample return, mounting, and staining procedures.
- Ensure compliance with state and national regulatory agencies.
- Interface with other departments, including laboratory, Pre-Analytical, and the pathologist.
- Assist with administrative duties as assigned.
- Produce the highest quality of microtomy and H&E staining.
- Prepare microscopic slides on human tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including embedding, microtomy, and mounting paraffin processed tissue.
- Process specimen accessioning, including all manual and computerized data entry.
- Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOPs.
- Perform sample capture for submitting samples to Molecular.
- Serve as a departmental Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Train new and existing employees on histology tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably in molecular diagnostics.
- Ability to rapidly cut and mount high-quality tissue sections from a variety of tissue types, including needle biopsies.
- Maintains continuing education units required by the California Department of Health Services.
- Experience with all major brands of histology equipment.
