The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC), is a federally funded Special Purpose Government Agency, created to provide rent subsidies, and promote affordable housing for low-income persons residing in Salt Lake City . HASLC is the largest public housing authority in the state of Utah and the largest provider of Affordable Housing in the Salt Lake Valley. We currently assist over 10,000 individuals, who are seniors, persons with disabilities, children, previously homeless, and households with minimal income, a place to call home.
The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) is an organization that aims to promote and provide affordable housing opportunities for the community. As part of this mission, HASLC and its non-profit subsidiaries manage a substantial $61 million operating budget portfolio. They administer state, federal, and Section 8 grant programs through contracts with HUD. Additionally, they own and operate 1,776 housing units and are actively involved in real estate development.
General Purpose as Eligibility Specialist
As the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) strives to promote and provide affordable housing opportunities for the community, the Eligibility Specialist is responsible for determining applicant eligibility for housing assistance by verification of information and ensuring they are eligible according to Federal regulations and Housing Authority policies and procedures, and maintenance of accurate physical and computer files.

Requirements:
Requirements of Eligibility Specialist
- Analyzes individual housing assistance applications to determine eligibility and priorities according to HUD regulations and Housing Authority policies. Reviews and interprets information provided on a variety of forms by the client and third parties to assist with eligibility determinations.
- Inputs housing application data into computer system and performs periodic updates of waiting lists to ensure accuracy of applicant information.
- Performs notification and verification processes for housing programs, when applicants have reached the top of the waiting list. Assure applications are processed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Distributes applications and other required program forms to clients.
- Organizes and prioritizes caseload ensuring that records and documents are processed and updated according to Housing Authority priorities.
- Communicates both orally and in writing with clients and others related to eligibility processes while maintaining confidentiality.
Desired Skills & Experience of Eligibility Specialist
- Equivalent of a high school education and 1 year of work experience performing clerical or receptionist duties with high public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional customer service skills with ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work well with other employees and the public under varying circumstances and function effectively in stressful situations to meet agency goals and deadlines.
- Proven ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to relate to and communicate professionally with persons from all socio-economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize, and make decisions according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
