Overview:
Medara is an early-stage start-up developing an innovative platform in a rapidly evolving industry. We are seeking a part-time CTO to help lead the technical vision and development of our platform. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the technical architecture, implementing data security measures, and ensuring the scalability of the platform from day one. Responsibilities:
Platform Strategy:
- Develop and Own the Technical Architecture: You will lead the design and development of the platform's technical infrastructure, including front-end, back-end, and databases. The goal is to create a robust and scalable system that can support future growth and adaptations.
- Tech Stack Selection: Choose and implement the right tech stack that supports both short-term objectives (MVP launch) and long-term scalability. You will ensure that the platform remains efficient, flexible, and cost-effective.
- Align Tech with Business Goals: Work closely with leadership to align technical decisions with business goals and ensure the platform is built with users in mind.
Hands-On Development:
- Oversee Core Features for MVP: Manage the development of essential platform features such as user authentication, matching systems, and data processing workflows.
- Code Review and Quality Control: Ensure high-quality code by reviewing and collaborating with the lead developer. Perform testing and debugging during the MVP phase.
- Rapid Iteration: The startup environment requires flexibility—prepare to iterate and adapt features based on user and market feedback.
Data Security & Privacy:
- Develop Security Measures: Implement and maintain a secure infrastructure that meets industry-standard privacy and data protection requirements. Focus on ensuring data protection from day one.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations relevant to the platform, ensuring that user data is handled safely and transparently.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Team Leadership: Lead and guide a small team of developers and freelancers, ensuring smooth collaboration and timely delivery of milestones.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other departments, particularly marketing and research, to align development with business objectives. This includes coordinating efforts with external vendors or partners when necessary.
Long-Term Vision:
- Planning for Scalability: Design systems that can evolve as the platform grows. You’ll lay the groundwork for adding future features and scaling the platform to accommodate a broader user base.
- Strategic Roadmapping: Develop a technical roadmap that aligns with business goals, ensuring the platform remains competitive in the marketplace.
Requirements:
Technical Expertise:
- Start-Up Experience Preferred: 7+ years in senior technical leadership roles, particularly in start-up or fast-paced environments where agility and flexibility are key.
- Full-Stack Development Experience: Experience in both front-end and back-end development, particularly in SaaS or platform-based products. Familiarity with modern frameworks such as React, Node.js, and Python is highly preferred.
- Data Security and Compliance: Deep understanding of data privacy standards and the ability to implement systems that meet compliance regulations.
- AI & Machine Learning: Experience with AI-powered solutions (e.g., matching algorithms, predictive analytics) is a plus.
Leadership & Adaptability:
- Hands-On: Willing to contribute directly to coding and technical problem-solving, while also thinking strategically about long-term growth.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to work with non-technical team members and translate technical requirements into understandable terms.
- Team Building: Previous experience in building and managing small, agile teams of developers and technical staff.
Start-Up Mindset:
- Comfort with Uncertainty: You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity and pivoting quickly as new information becomes available.
- Visionary and Pragmatic: Balancing big-picture thinking with day-to-day execution is critical. You should be excited about the long-term potential while maintaining focus on MVP delivery.
Compensation:
- Base Compensation: Contract-based role, with an estimated budget of $40,000 - 50,000 for your contribution over the initial MVP development timeframe (6-8 months)
- Equity Options: Equity options are available and negotiable based on your involvement and contributions. You will have the opportunity to grow with the company as a key part of our leadership team.
