Looking for: (1) BS in Mechanical, (2) 8 solid years in areas of design/application of mech engineering principles for various types of commercial building mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, pumping and heat exchange), and (3) Well versed in the NYS and NYC Building Codes and ability to perform equipment sizing calculations and select mechanical equipment.
- 8-10 years of experience in HVAC design in a consulting engineering firm experience HVAC Engineers with Design Experience - NO PROJECT MANAGERS OR SIMILAR TITLES
- The Senior Mechanical Engineer, under general guidance, directs or performs specific engineering assignments of whatever size or complexity in his/her field of expertise.
- These tasks may require the coordination of efforts among architects, engineers, users and consultants.
- For these assignments the Senior Mechanical Engineer establishes design criteria, is responsible for the correctness of drawings, may make or approve field design changes, and may represent the section or department to resolve and to plan and coordinate work.
- This position's objective is to have in-house mechanical engineering expertise to respond consistently and efficiently to normal, emergency and critical projects.
Core Responsibilities
- Engineer and design projects to support the Capital and Operations & Maintenance budgets of Facilities which include the buildings and yards of various Service Centers and Commercial Buildings, as well as supporting projects associated with other customers of Steam Distribution, Substation Operations, Electrical Operations, Information Technology, and Transportation Operations.
- Provide engineering support for various types of commercial building/yard mechanical systems (e.g. heating ventilation & air conditioning, controls, pumping and heat exchange) and should be well versed in the NYS and NYC Building Codes and be able to perform equipment sizing calculations and select mechanical equipment.
- Review and approve contractor designs, calculations, shop drawings and submittals.
- Serve as a consultant within the company or the industry in area of specialization.
- Perform cost benefit analysis and conducts conceptual studies to determine best designs; and prepare budgets and appropriation requests.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of budgets and appropriation requests for specific projects.
- Act in place of Section Manager when so delegated and acts as expert witness when required.
- Direct, coordinate, and review work of other architects, designers and engineers, and architectural/engineering firms.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering 8 years of experience in areas of design, and application of engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering 6 years of experience in areas of design, and application of engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise.
Relevant Work Experience
- Must be a motivated individual with strong leadership abilities and demonstrated initiatives. Required
- Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities with a proven record of accomplishments in providing architectural support for various types of projects. Required
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as good oral and written communication skills to interact with various departments and customers (internal and external) at all levels. Required
- Must be able to perform required calculations and select equipment in support of capital and O&M project designs. Required
