Summary of Position:
The Assistant Safety Manger is responsible for managing and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. The person in the role supports the Corporate Safety Department by facilitating inspections to identify unsafe conditions and training for proactive safety measures.
Functions of Position:
- Completes daily facility walk-through of all buildings to identify safety concerns and conduct compliance required audits. Stocks first aid kits for facility and maintains first aid log.
- Coordinates with Corporate Safety team on all issues that require immediate attention.
- Manage the safety committee and all related activities
- Performs initial and recurring forklift training (classroom and proficiency)
- Maintains safety communication boards and postings. Prepares written reports and metrics for the Corporate Safety Department. Responsible for SDS Online site and chemical updates.
- Conducts safety trainings. Champions site corporate safety programs.
- Monitors workers compensation claims and costs. Coordinates medical treatment and “return-to-work” for employees to reduce workers compensation costs and absenteeism.
- Aids supervisors/managers in accident/incident investigations and assists with completion of all required documentation
- Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements.
- Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.
- Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.
- Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and information within assigned team and across functional areas.
- Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.
- Responsible for compliance with all safety policies and procedures established for health and workplace safety.
- Responsible for supporting safety culture by practicing safe work behaviors, reporting potential hazards, and conducting safety observations as assigned.
Qualifications:
-Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Safety of Behavioral based leadership preferred
- 3-4 years experience in safety
- Experience in training safety programs and preventing unsafe conditions and acts
- Required knowledge of OSHA regulations
-Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- OSHA 30
- Associate Safety Professional preferred
-Skills and competencies:
- Knowledge or Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management as well as hourly employees
- Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised
- Bilingual , English/Spanish, strongly preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
