JOB SUMMARY
Role: Finance and Operations
Location: Dallas, TX
Compensation: Competitive within the Venture Capital industry and commensurate with experience
Start Date: Immediate
Dallas Venture Capital (“DVC”) seeks to hire a Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) or Vice President of Finance (“VP Finance”) to support the firm in several major areas of operations, including but not limited to: accounting/tax, auditing, budgeting, financial reporting, human resources, and strategic advice. The individual will work closely with the DVC team – a tight-knit entrepreneurial group of venture professionals.
CFO Functions are spread across three main categories:
- Managing DVC entities (Fund, Management Co, GP)
1. Financial Statement Preparation and Analysis: Handling various financial management tasks, such as tracking cash flow, capital expenditure planning, expense management, reconciling bank accounts, and allocating income to limited and general partners in accordance with terms of partnership agreements
2. Financial Controls: Developing and implementing financial control processes (ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness, reliable financial reporting, and compliance with laws and regulations)
3. Managing audit and tax functions: Serving as the liaison to:
§ internal auditing firms during the auditing process,
§ tax firms during tax season, assisting during K-1 preparation
§ fund administrator and ensuring financial reporting is accurate
4. Budgeting and Forecasting: Overseeing the firm’s annual financial budgeting, forecasting, and review process
5. Employee Benefits Management: Overseeing employee benefits programs (including health insurance and retirement fund plans)
6. Other Responsibilities: Consulting on general back-office management, offering guidance on best practices, process efficiencies and other administrative questions across the firm
1. Portfolio Company Financial Due Diligence
§ Analyzing financial data from portfolio companies and providing strategic advice to partners
§ Working closely with the CFOs of the firm’s portfolio companies, or serving as the temporary CFO of a portfolio company on an as-needed basis
§ Conducting financial due diligence on potential VC investments and prospective limited partners
2. Portfolio Construction
§ Preparing detailed model for current and future funds by forecasting and planning for capital allocations, including new investments, follow-on investments, and timing exits
1. Quarterly and Annual Investor Reports
§ Preparing quarterly financial reports for investors. These reports contain balance sheets (that list the portfolio companies and their fair market value, as well as cash on hand), profit and loss statements, cash-flow statements, and a schedule of investments.
§ Evaluating valuation changes applied to positions, ensuring they are sufficiently documented and accurately calculated.
2. Managing Investor Capital Accounts
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree required, CFA and/or CPA preferred
- 8+ years of work experience with at least 5+ years experience in financial operations of a VC, PE, or hedge fund is a must; experience with fundraising, exits, and acquisitions is highly preferred
- Private company valuation experience (FASB Topic 820)
- Portfolio Growth: Fundraising and Optimizing Capital Tables: Skilled in optimizing capital tables, securing funding, and supporting investor relations for tech companies at various growth stages.
- Financial systems implementation: Proficient in analyzing financial systems for SaaS models, ensuring accurate reporting and data visibility.
- Revenue Recognition: Extensive experience with SaaS-specific revenue recognition policies
- Data-driven decision making: Utilizing data analytics to develop strategic financial insights, produce forecasts, and guide long-term growth strategies.
- Extensive experience with US financial and securities regulations
- Prior experience with US and cross-border transactions
- Familiarity with fund administration platforms and portfolio company valuation softwares is preferred
