The Regional Manager of Vivarium Solutions role is based in California and requires a highly motivated individual capable of working independently in a dynamic environment. This position involves daily interaction with both external and internal stakeholders and entails evolving responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with state, local, and federal regulations for laboratory animal care and will oversee a team of operations managers, animal care technicians, research associates, and collaborate with veterinary and administrative support staff. Reporting to the Director of Vivarium Solutions, this role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities aimed at achieving superior customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage (and hire) animal care technicians. Supervise and manage operations managers, animal care technicians, and research associates.
- Assign duties and responsibilities to the operations management team and direct reports.
- Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations governing laboratory animal care, including the Animal Welfare Act and the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.”
- Train technicians on Innovive SOPs and ensure animal technicians follow procedures.
- Coordinate training and proficiency standards for animal technicians, ensuring adherence to procedures.
- Collaborate with clients, safety officers, veterinarians, and IACUC Chairs to implement safety and IACUC policies in vivaria.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and establish yearly goals for direct reports. Oversee performance reviews and goal-setting for all staff under your management.
- Participate in audits, site visits, or inspections by internal or external parties.
- As a direct supervisor, provide coaching, counseling, and troubleshoot personnel issues.
- Attend trade shows, industry events, and represent the company in public forums. Contribute to client contract development and strategies to maximize client value and company revenues.
- Participate in customer onboarding processes and manage customer expectations.
- Provide intelligence on key competitors to inform strategic decisions.
- Provide regular updates to business management and collaborate with company-wide resources to achieve superior customer satisfaction.
- Participate in company teams to build relationships with key accounts.
- Managed client engagement and relationship-building across multiple states/regions, ensuring consistent communication and tailored support to meet client needs
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong understanding of animal welfare and the ethical use of animals in research.
- Familiar with rodent research animal species (mice, rats) handling and their appropriate use.
- Expert understanding of animal research facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Ability to apply fundamental principles of sanitation and disinfection.
- Familiarity with Innovive rack and caging systems.
- Flexible to adjust work schedules to accommodate varying workloads, including weekends, holidays, and evenings to accommodate business needs.
- Strong writing skills and ability to keep well-documented, accurate work records.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to work in a high-paced, quality, and customer service environment.
- Able to perform assigned tasks independently.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask.
- Excellent work ethic and must be a team player.
- Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in basic mathematical computation.

- Understand basic animal techniques, including handling, dosing, blood/tissue collections, etc.
- Familiar with regulatory compliance (e.g., IACUC, NIH, AAALAC, OLAW, DEA, FDA).
- Understand management principles.
- Understand Human Resources basics.
- Physical dexterity to operate all job-related equipment.
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work in a standing position requiring regular bending and stretching throughout the work shift.
Education and Experience:
- BS or BA degree is preferred but substantial experience may be substituted. AALAS certification is a plus.
- 4 years managing or leading in vivo vivarium staff; significant animal care exposure.
Location: San Diego or San Francisco, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time/ Exempt
Travel: Periodically travel to the East Coast for client interactions, relationship building, and training of team members to ensure consistent service quality and adherence to company standards.
