OVERVIEW:
The Organization. The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) is the principal trade association for the those in the business of information. Our members include over 400 firms involved in academic publishing, education technology, and financial information, along with creators of software and platforms used by millions all over the world.
Function. SIIA seeks a highly motivated individual to join our Policy and Government Affairs team to coordinate SIIA’s engagement in state legislative activity that affects SIIA’s membership. The role will focus on privacy, artificial intelligence, and children’s privacy and safety. This individual will play an integral role in the development of SIIA’s policy positions by monitoring state-level developments, building industry and legislative relationships, and working closely with SIIA’s policy experts and member companies. This position is an excellent opportunity for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and who have an interest in shaping technology policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor legislative developments and state policy events on core issues relevant to SIIA’s members, as determined in collaboration with SIIA’s policy experts, and implement a system for tracking legislation, issues, and developments.
- Build and maintain relationships with relevant state-level policymakers of both parties, state-based thought leaders, and related organizations to raise awareness of SIIA’s position and create opportunities for SIIA engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with representatives with national and state-based organizations and individuals engaging on SIIA’s priority issues and, as appropriate, assist in the development of advocacy coalitions.
- Coordinate engagement of SIIA’s policy experts at the state level, to include testimony, letter writing, meetings, and other forms of engagement.
- Coordinate development of positions with SIIA policy team and SIIA member companies.
- Develop strategies to enhance SIIA engagement and influence on state legislative priorities across the SIIA issue portfolio, including public affairs, coalition building, and other approaches.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- [5] years relevant work experience in public policy, including at least [3] years of work involving state policy and legislation
- Demonstrated interest or experience in technology policy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience with public policy organizations, think tanks, or governmental agencies is a plus, but not required.
- Preference for candidates based in the DC area.
